Good questions

The things travellers ask us first.

Honest answers to the questions we hear most. If yours is not here, we would be glad to talk it through.

Is China safe to travel in?

China is generally very safe for visitors, with low rates of street crime and excellent public infrastructure. Our role is to add an extra layer of care on top: vetted accommodation, bilingual support, clear protocols and around-the-clock contact, so you can relax into the experience.

Can we talk freely in public?

Everyday conversation, questions and curiosity are entirely normal and welcome. As anywhere, we simply encourage courteous awareness of local context. Our hosts brief every group beforehand so everyone feels comfortable and well-informed.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer the most comfortable weather for outdoor learning and cultural experiences. We generally plan around major public holidays such as Chinese New Year and the National Day Golden Week for a smoother journey.

Do New Zealand and Australian travellers need a visa?

New Zealand passport holders currently enjoy 30-day visa-free entry to China. Requirements differ by nationality and can change, so we confirm the current position for every traveller as part of pre-departure preparation.

How do payments work without cash?

Daily life in China runs largely on mobile payment. We help you set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before or on arrival, and advise on where cards are accepted, so you are never caught out.

Still have a question about China?

Whether it is visas, payments, accessibility or pace, we are happy to answer it before you decide anything.
